Conservatives in Canada rant
I'm part of growing minority of Conservative minded Canadians,who have been painted as rednecks,misfits,religious fundamentalist's or tools of corporations which is simply untrue. Conservatives are not all like the Geogre W.Bush's or Bill O'Reilly's of this world,their are compassionate people and who are trying improve this country. Conservatives are improving this country by fighting for lower taxes for all Canadians and corporations,a two-tier health care system that will preserve public health care and better government not more government. The reason the Canadian people never hear this is because the media is slightly biased toward conservatives and the liberal parties (liberals and NDP) are always demonizing the conservative party.It's not completely hopeless for conservative minded Canadians though because of organizations like the National citizens coalition and Simon Fraiser institute are getting the conservative messenge out there. I'm not asking you to vote conservative in the 2006 election I just want you to hear them out.

Great blog I hope we can work to build a better health care system as we are in a major crisis and health insurance is a major aspect to many.

You do realize that if the taxes are lowered the money has to come from elsewhere, right? Take the recent GST cut for example, it's not a very widly known fact but to make up for the lost money the government lowered the minimum taxable income by $400 per year causing 200 000 Canadians who wern't paying income tax before to pay it now. Moreover, they also increased the minimum income tax percentage for low income people by 1%. Now while this doesn't seem like much to you or me to low-income people every little bit counts. so while the rich save thousands of dollors per year, the poor are strugiling even more.
Now take my mother and father for example, they still have four kids living at home. My father is a janitor at Calgary Co-op making 10.72 per hour on 28 hour work weeks*. Do the math, that's over $2300; almost 2 months pay. While I won't credit the Cretian(sp?) regime with much during his (and Martin's) time the minimum taxable income was rased by almost $2000 ommiting over 1 000 000 Canadians who probably couldn't afford income tax from paying it. Also, these liberals lowered the percentage that they had to pay by 2%. All this work to help the poor (and all other classes for that matter; see Canadian income tax info on Wiki)
has been cut down (but in this case, just for the poor) and will be totally distroyed by the time the GST becomes 5%. You say the Conservitives want to lower taxes for everyone but the way I see it the only people who will really be saving are the rich.
*my father would work 40 hour work weeks but due to physical limitations (arthritius) he can't.
