Voices from a distant star review

The anime this week is Voices from a distant star which is an excellence short film by director Makoto Shinkai, who also did all the animation and all the CG. Voices from a distant star is bittersweet love story about two young lovers Nobuo and Mikako who try to continue there relationship eventhough their are separated by a war with aliens known as the tarsians. The only way Nobuo and Mikako can stay together is through email that takes months and then takes years to arrive as Mikako moves further into deep space. The story starts out with Nobuo and Mikako spending what would their last day together before Mikako ships out in a TRACER ( giant robot ) to fight the tarsians.

The visuals in Voices from a distant star are amazing because of the well done CG backgrounds, as well as hand drawn backgrounds, CG effects like smoke or laser beams are great, the CG animation on things like the TRACERs and tarsians is well done and hand drawn animation is excellence considering its done by one person. The audio is also great with a nice main theme playing through out, the Japanese seiyuu's (voice actors) do a good job and ADV films also did a good job with the english dub. The story is this anime greatest quality which is emotional and intense.

Voice from a distant star get a 10/10. It's short but sweet.

You MUST see The Place Promised in Our Early Days! You'll really love it. I liked VoaDS as well but I liked PPiOED about twice as much.

I heard PPiOED wasn't as good as VoaDS but I will consider it in the future.

The stories have quite a bit in common but the production values are cranked up as well as the quality of the music. It also has a better ending than VoaDS since it explains more at the end. That part is a matter of taste of course.
